UNCG is ranked in the top 15 percent in the CollegeNet 2016 Social Mobility Index (SMI), a national index that ranks colleges and universities based on their success in enhancing economic mobility.

The SMI – which ranks 918 colleges and universities across the country – measures the extent to which an institution educates more economically disadvantaged students at a lower tuition so that they can graduate and obtain well-paying jobs.

The methodology is based on five variables: tuition, economic background of students, graduation rates, early career salaries and endowments. Data was collected from third-party sources.
