The UNCG Alumni Association has announced the 2016 Spartans of Promise, a recognition that honors up to 10 outstanding UNCG seniors who have excelled in both academics and service.

Supported each year by the 50th Reunion class and the UNCG Alumni Association, the annual award creates a unique connection between our newest generation of alumni and the members of the Vanguard, an organization of UNCG and Woman’s College graduates of 50 or more years.

The award recipients were selected by an alumni panel that included Woman’s College alumnae, graduates of the last decade – or GOLD alumni – and alumni from the 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s.

This year’s Spartans of Promise are:

  • Hugo Coicaud of Le Havre, France, majoring in finance
  • Alma Diaz of Graham, North Carolina, majoring in nursing
  • Summer Drum of Jacksonville, North Carolina, majoring in elementary education and music
  • Remi Olagoke of Raleigh, North Carolina, majoring in speech language pathology
  • Joshua Parish of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, majoring in health studies
  • Anna Poteat of Greensboro, North Carolina, majoring in geography
  • Antonio Roberson of Charlotte, North Carolina, majoring in information and supply chain management
  • Olivia Robinson of Wilkesboro, North Carolina, majoring in business administration
  • Antonio Southern of Greensboro, North Carolina, majoring in business administration
  • Rouven Wahlfeldt of Velbert, Germany, majoring in international business

“This is an amazing group of students who are all leaders and academic scholars in their own right,” said Crystal Josey, assistant director of alumni engagement. “From international students to student athletes to a distance learner in Milwaukee, the diversity of this year’s Spartans of Promise is truly a reflection of the UNCG student body.”

The award recipients will be recognized at the Alumni of Distinction Awards Dinner – a signature Homecoming event – on Thursday, Oct. 20, and will be invited to participate in UNCG Alumni Association events throughout the year.
