UNCG historian and political analyst Dr. Omar Ali was quoted in a Sept. 7 News & Record article on diversity in leadership positions in Greensboro and Guilford County government. The article explored how well local governmental leadership reflected the larger community in terms of diversity.

Diversity is valued in the private sector as well, Ali said. “In the private sector, there is a general recognition that diversity is a positive thing. But it’s not from a moralistic perspective,” Ali told the paper.

Private companies value that people from different backgrounds — racial, gender, socioeconomic, sexual orientation, etc — bring a variety of perspectives to their work, he added.
