Dr. Andrew Brod, senior research fellow in the Center for Business and Economic Research, was interviewed by the News & Record regarding the 3.2 percent increase in retail sales nationwide. The gradual climb, which began in April, is a big indicator of an increase in economic health.

But the numbers don’t give the complete picture because they don’t correct for inflation, Brod said. As well, the numbers are only representative of a small sample of retailers.

“There’s nothing in here that changes the overall impression of ongoing but weak growth (in the economy),” Brod said.
