Dr. Andrew Brod, senior research fellow in the Center for Business and Economic Research, was interviewed by the News & Record regarding the 2013 Manufacturing and Logistics National Report by Ball State University. This research gave North Carolina’s manufacturing industry a downgraded health report over the past year.

Despite the reduction of North Carolina from a B- to a C+, Brod has a focused idea of how this happened. In regards to local manufacturing, he stated that many textile and apparel makers left the state.

“But we had so many eggs in that basket,” he said.

Brod also commented on the B that the state received for sector diversification, which is the silver lining of the report.

“The more diversification you have, the more nimble your manufacturing sector is going to be,” Brod said. “Ultimately, all that really matters is the skills of people in the area.”
