For this freshman, the third time’s a charm.

Spartan men’s golfer Carter Jenkins won the 2013 Wolfpack Intercollegiate Tuesday in just his third collegiate event. He won with a UNCG program-record score of 13-under par 203.

He becomes the first Spartan individual medalist since Robert Hoadley won the same tournament in 2011-12.

Sophomore Taylor Coalson posted the Spartans’ other top-10 showing of the event as he placed seventh overall.

The Spartans finished the tournament second in the team standings to East Tennessee State. The Spartans’ 10-under par 854 score was the third lowest 54-hole team total in program history.

Seventeen teams competed, including NC State, Rutgers, Maryland, ECU, UNCW and Boston College.
