Michael Fleming, for whom UNCG’s Fleming Gymnasium is named, has passed away.

A UNCG Board of Trustees member from 1981-87, he served for several years on the UNCG Excellence Foundation board of directors and was a charter member of the UNCG Spartan Club in 1992, as well as a charter inductee of the UNCG Athletics Hall of Fame. Fleming chaired the special gifts division of the Prospectus III Campaign, UNCG’s first-ever fundraising drive.

Fleming also was instrumental in helping secure state funding for construction and renovation of UNCG’s School of Health and Human Performance Building. Fleming Gymnasium is named for him.

The memorial service will be Saturday, Nov. 1, 10:30 a.m., Christ United Methodist Church, Holden Road, with visitation after the service. Burial will be private.
