Paul Chelimo, a UNCG student and track and field athlete, represented his native Kenya with a silver medal in the 5,000 meters at the World University Games in Kazan, Russia, as reported by the News & Record.

In a Facebook exchange, Chelimo reflected on his second place finish.

“The race was great,” he said. “I was a bit reserved toward the beginning since I knew I was a bit tired from the 1,500. The pace favored me today since I needed a fast pace. I didn’t want a kicker race at the end.”

Chelimo took sixth place in the 1,500 meters.

In terms of his next steps after this race, he commented, “I will head back to Kenya after this then start base training for cross country.”
