Mike Perko, associate professor of Public Health Education and children’s book author, took time out Feb. 27 to read his book “Cornered!” to kids at Joyner Elementary School in Greensboro. Perko’s visit was part of the school’s Books Before Bed event to encourage reading. Perko read “Cornered!”, the story of a turtle named Sheldon who is teased because of his four-cornered shell. Perko says the book goes beyond an anti-bullying message to encourage kids to celebrate their differences. Every child got a free copy of “Cornered!” and Perko signed books for them after the reading.
WFMY News 2 turned out to capture the event, which was held on national Read Across America Day.
