The UNCG men’s basketball team took second in the Southern Conference Tournament to round out what has been a record-setting run for Coach Wes Miller and his team.

The Spartans are now 25-9 on the season and will advance to the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) for postseason play.

Despite the loss to East Tennessee State in Monday night’s championship game, this year’s SoCon Tournament was one for the books. UNCG students, alumni and fans turned out in droves to cheer on the team – both in Asheville and at viewing parties on campus and across the state.

After the title game, Miller praised seniors Diante Baldwin and R.J. White for their leadership.

“They’ve changed the standard that we expect in our program. They’ve changed the culture. And they’re family to me,” Miller said.

The Spartans will learn their postseason fate when the NIT Selection Committee conducts selections March 10-12.
