This holiday season, there’s a lot to be thankful for at UNC Greensboro.

This fall saw record enrollment, new funding to support student success programs, and the launch of new, exciting degree programs.

In celebration of Thanksgiving and the start of the winter holidays, UNCG students, faculty, and staff took the time to share what they are most grateful for.

“I am thankful for a student body that confronts hate with love, and compassion, and tolerance.”
Chancellor Franklin D. Gilliam, Jr.

“I am thankful that UNCG is where I discovered sisterhood, found my true love, and became a lifelong learner. I am also thankful for Isaiah Miller’s 50 inch vertical.”
Dr. Jacqueline DeBrew ’91, ’96 MSN, ’08 PhD, clinical professor and director, RN to BSN program

“To UNCG, I am eternally grateful for the space you provided the women in my family – namely my mother and my wife – to pursue their intellectual curiosities. Because of their experiences at UNCG, I was inspired to follow in the footsteps of these mighty women. To find my way here, is to find my way to them; to (re)connect with the people that make me whole. UNCG is a part of our legacy. And for that, I am truly thankful.”
Donovan Livingston, PhD candidate, Dept. of Educational Leadership and Cultural Foundations

“I am thankful to work every day with students who remind me that collectively we can be more compassionate.”
Augusto Peña, director, Office of Intercultural Engagement

“I’m thankful for those who make the G beautiful to see and safe to roam, for workplace opportunity, for supportive colleagues, and at the end of each day for cuddly puppies.”
Wade Maki, director, Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies program, and senior lecturer, Dept. of Philosophy

“I’m thankful for a KIN department that is full of faculty and staff who come to work each day to make positive and impactful contributions to students, UNCG, and the community. I’m thankful that I work with some of the greatest minds of our generation. Some of the most dedicated people I have ever known. And some of the most incredible friends one can have.”
Dr. Aaron Terranova, associate professor and director of undergraduate studies, Dept. of Kinesiology

“I am thankful for a great semester, my wonderful friends, and having the opportunity to serve as your Homecoming Royalty.”
Quella Reid, junior, Dept. of Human Development and Family Studies, and 2019 Homecoming Court Royalty

“I am thankful for the honor and joy of witnessing and encouraging the noble endeavor of our brave, and dedicated, and hardworking students, as they discover their gifts and their professional passions.”
Eloise Hassell, senior lecturer, Dept. of Management

“I am incredibly grateful for coffee. It was a long season – long hours, long days – and we couldn’t have done it without coffee.”
Chris Rich, men’s soccer head coach

“I’m very thankful for UNCG because of the opportunity to work 24 wonderful years at an amazing institution that is truly transforming lives and helping students find their purpose.”
Dr. Brett Carter, associate vice chancellor and dean of students
