UNCG Athletics had a banner year in 2016-17, but even more impressive was its record-setting performance in the classroom.

A total of 233 student-athletes set a program record with a 3.22 grade-point average for the 2016-17 year, and UNCG also set a new mark for a single-term with a 3.25 GPA during the spring semester.

“Our students take academics seriously and prepare as diligently as they do for competition,” said UNCG Director of Athletics Kim Record. “I’m proud of their success in the classroom.”

The Spartans’ 17 teams had 166 student-athletes named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll, including 92 on the Dean’s List and 52 on the Chancellor’s List. Twelve student-athletes finished the 2016-17 year with a 4.0 cumulative GPA, and 32 student-athletes posted a 4.0 GPA for the 2017 spring term.

Forty-three UNCG student-athletes received their degrees at the May Commencement ceremony. Women’s basketball led the way with six graduates.
