UNCG and the UNC School of the Arts have been authorized to plan Master of Fine Arts degree programs in film production. UNCG will plan a degree in media production while UNCSA will plan one in filmmaking, according to the Business Journal blog.

UNC Wilmington also received permission to plan a related master’s program.

The interest in hosting such programs isn’t surprising, given the emphasis the state has put on the film business as an economic development tool. But whether the Board of Governors will approve two similar programs for campuses only 40 minutes apart will be decided at a later date.
