UNCG graduate Chelsea Tart was interviewed by the Winston-Salem Journal about getting her start in the baking business. Tart, who graduated in 2012 with a degree in entrepreneurship, always had her eye toward opening a bakery.

“My dream was always to have a store,” she said. “I just didn’t know when it was going to happen.”

Tart, 23, grew up in Pfafftown with a love of cooking, which only grew during her high school career. Although she used baking back then as a way to deal with illness in the family, it helped hone her skills in the kitchen.

“I would go in the kitchen and not come out for hours on end. It was my way of dealing with everything.”

Her bakery, Tart Sweets, is located at 1318 S. Hawthorne Road and is currently getting ready for the holiday season. With free cookies and cocoa on Saturdays, this bakery has a seasonal touch that is an inspiration to anyone excited to share the holiday spirit.

“We’ll have cake truffles boxed up and ready to go in our holiday flavors,” she told the newspaper.
