A bicyclist made his way from Spartan Village, crossed Lee Street – and on a bright spring morning became one of the first students to make use of UNCG’s new Pedestrian Underpass.

The underpass opened for use April 1.

The underpass, a collaborative effort between UNCG and the North Carolina Railroad Company, creates a new gateway to campus from Spartan Village, which will be dedicated at a ribbon cutting ceremony on the Forest Street side of the underpass at 2 p.m. on April 24.

Chancellor Linda P. Brady has invited the entire UNCG community to join her as the university begins a new phase of campus life. Following the ribbon cutting, a procession is planned through the underpass and a celebration on the plaza on the Lee Street side.

Music, refreshments and tours of the new residence halls will be available until 4 p. m.
