The UNCG women’s basketball team defeated Milwaukee 59-49 on Thursday night to advance to the championship game of the Women’s Basketball Invitational (WBI).

The Spartans will travel to Houston to take on Rice in the title game this Sunday at 4 p.m. CST (5 p.m. EST).

Thursday night’s win came in front of an energized home crowd at Fleming Gym. The announced attendance was 859, the second highest total of the season behind the school record of 1,007 attendees at the game against Presbyterian.

“I’m so thankful for our students,” said Head Coach Trina Patterson. “There was so much energy; Fleming was fun tonight. I thought the fans helped us to get going quickly and we had a great start. I just want to thank the students for coming out, in addition to our loyal supporters.”
