All eyes will be on the UNCG women’s soccer team this Thursday night as the Spartans take on defending national champions and third-ranked Florida State at home.

The Spartans are coming off a huge 2-0 win over NC State and a 1-1 double overtime tie against Triad rival Elon. Last week’s victory against the Wolfpack on the road marked the team’s first win over an ACC opponent this season, and the Spartans are hoping for déjá vu just one week later. Game time is set for 7 p.m.

Students are invited to the Quad at 5 p.m. on Thursday for a campus-wide tailgate featuring free food for the first 300 people, music by DJ Supreme, free UNCG swag, games, and photos with Spiro and other student athletes. Several big prizes will be raffled off at the event, including a 32-inch TV, an Ipad Mini and a digital camera. Students must get their raffle tickets at the tailgate and be present at halftime to claim their prizes. After the soccer match, attendees are invited to stick around for a fireworks show over UNCG Soccer Stadium. UNCG Athletics and several campus groups are teaming up to sponsor the event, which is also part of UNCG’s Mental Health Month. Students must present their SpartanCard to be eligible for food and prizes.

Thursday’s match-up isn’t the first time this year that UNCG’s soccer teams have competed on the national stage. The women’s team has battled on the road against two top-25 opponents, and the men’s team opened up its season by defeating ACC foe Virginia Tech in Blacksburg.

Come show your Spartan pride this Thursday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. as UNCG looks to upset No. 3 FSU. Admission is free.
